However, when I insert a floppy, the Floppy Drive tries to continually read the disk as if there is a fault with the disk. I have tried several disks and non are recognised. Before anybody asks, I have tried these disks on another machine and they work OK. When I remove the disk from the Floppy Drive, the Floppy Drive still seems to want to access the disk even though there is not one in the drive - the green light on the front of the drive turns on repeatedly and you can hear the motor spin.
Sounds like an issue with the SONY driver to me. I have tried to look for a suitable driver on the web but am a bit dubious about some of the sites that come up. After 6 hours this worked for me.
I have the Teac drive also and it appeared to install correctly, but did not show up in Windows Explorer. During a boot up the drive clicks and spins like 3. I opened "Devices and Printers" in the Control Panel and the drive was there. An ASR backup is a very handy think to have in case your server dies. I've done this a number of times - bottom line is you just need a working floppy.
Contrary to popular belief, you can restore to dis-similar hardware as well. Setting up the usb that way will still not allow to boot to it during a directory services restore. It would allow one to use the USB floppy to specify additional drivers if doing a fresh build. I've spoken with dell and found the answer. There is a port for the floppy, you just have to remove the cooling shroud, 4 fans, sas daughter card, disconnect the control panel and remove the fan bracket Post Reply.
